Tennis: Indian Wells, forward Badosa, Halep and Swiatek

Ninth consecutive success in California for the Spaniard, reigning champion. The Polish beats Kerber in comeback

Nine consecutive victories in Indian Wells for Paula Badosa. The Spaniard – winner of last year’s edition, in the final against Azarenka at the decisive tie-break – reaches the quarter-finals thanks to a beautiful victory over Leylah Fernandez: 6-4 6-4. The last player with a similar streak in the Californian tournament was Naomi Osaka, between 2018 and 2019: Badosa, seeded number 5, is still undefeated at Indian Wells (excluding qualifiers). In the quarter-finals, the Spaniard will face Veronika Kudermetova: the Russian tennis player wins a very intense match against the Czech Vondrousova in almost three hours of play (7-6 6-7 7-5).

Halep and Swiatek ok

In the same part of the board – the lower one – there will be the challenge between Maria Sakkari and Elena Rybakina: the Greek plays only five games before the Australian Saville retires, the Kazakh player overcomes the Swiss Golubic in two sets, who in the previous round eliminated Jasmine Paolini. At the top of the board, Simona Halep (winner of Indian Wells in 2015) and Iga Swiatek advance to the quarter-finals: the Romanian wins against her compatriot Cirstea and will face Martic – victory in two sets against Samsonova -, the Polish survives Kerber ( 4-6 6-2 6-3) and now he will play against Madison Keys, who in two sets (6-1 6-4) liquidates the British Dart.
