Pole vaulter Menno Vloon is hot on his heels in the world: “World Cup medal is certainly possible”

Step by step Menno Vloon is creeping towards the absolute world top. The pole vaulter from Zaandam now has the 6 meters in sight and seems to be heading for the World Indoor Championships in top form. “The goal is the top 5,” says Vloon.

Vloon expects that he will have to jump over 5 meters 95 in Belgrade. His personal best is 5.96 meters, but Vloon’s dream is to jump over 6.00 meters. “It is certainly in it. I have already tasted it a few times this season. This year the six meters should definitely come out,” said Vloon, who has 5.91 meters as the season best.

To the outside world it may sound like only a small difference, but jumping nine centimeters higher is technically a world of difference, according to Vloon. “They’re very different jumps.” The favorite at the World Indoor Championships is Armand Duplantis. The Swede regularly jumps over six meters and set the world record at 6 meters 19 at the beginning of March.
