The Spaniard – winner of last year’s edition, in the final against Azarenka at the decisive tie-break – reaches the quarter-finals thanks to a beautiful victory over Leylah Fernandez: 6-4 6-4. The last player with a similar streak in the Californian tournament was Naomi Osaka, between 2018 and 2019: Badosa, seeded number 5, is still undefeated at Indian Wells (excluding qualifiers). In the quarter-finals, the Spaniard will face Veronika Kudermetova: the Russian tennis player wins a very intense match against the Czech Vondrousova in almost three hours of play (7-6 6-7 7-5).
