She didn’t show much respect: As with her opening victory over the Chinese Wang Xiyu, Niemeier dominated with her serve – she still hasn’t allowed a break. “I’m speechless to be honest. Winning the game on court 1 at Wimbledon is a great feeling”said Niemeier. “It’s one of the best matches I’ve ever played. I was pretty nervous before the game.”

It was only in May in Paris that she made her debut in the main draw of one of the four most important tennis tournaments in the world, but narrowly lost to former US Open winner Sloane Stephens (USA).

Otte’s opponent gives up

Oscar Otte’s match was over even faster. Christian Harrison of the USA retired after just 15 minutes of play. This means that Otte is also in the 3rd round. Otte is the only one of originally seven German men in the third round of Wimbledon.

Because the tournament is already over for Maximilian Marterer. The man from Nuremberg lost to No. 23 seed Frances Tiafoe from the USA in three sets 2: 6, 2: 6, 6: 7 (3: 7).

The American dominated the game, especially with his serve and gave Marterer hardly a chance at the beginning. After only 23 minutes, the Franconian had to give up the first set and quickly conceded a break in the second round. Marterer kept up better in the third set, but had to admit defeat after 1:36 hours.
