Specifically those of the ball boys who appeared dressed in a completely different way than usual on the day of the final. No longer a short skirt, but long trousers and flared almost to the calf, no more tight-fitting tops deemed inconvenient, but only sleeveless.

The decision was made by the organizers of the tennis tournament to stem the wave of indignation that erupted after someone had argued on the inappropriate clothing of the “balls girls” compared to other colleagues engaged in men’s competitions.
Some wear fitted and cropped tops as well as pleated miniskirts and flutter hems. The others wear short-sleeved shirts, not at all close-fitting and “acceptable” outfits.
Objects of decoration and fun
A controversy that has created such a stir that even the secretary of state for equality in Spain intervenedSoledad Murillo to say that “that clothing foments a clear discrimination against women who appear as mere objects of decoration and entertainment”.
And evidently the pressure was such that in the end too the organizers of the tournament had to capitulate.
Sexy ball boy, an out of time “tradition”.
That of sexy ball boy at the Madrid tournamentis a “tradition” that began in 2004 from an idea of Ion Tiriac, very rich creator of the ATP 1000 in the Spanish capital, director until 2021, to make the tournament more “interesting”.
But now times have changed, there is more attention to the issue of sexism so much so that the story of the models-ball boys has gone beyond the boundaries of sport, becoming a very topical social topic that it involved many more people than the organizers could imagine.
