Indian Wells (AP) – Alexander Zverev reached the next round in doubles at the ATP Masters in Indian Wells one day after his early exit in singles.
With the Kazakh Andrej Golubew, the 24-year-old from Hamburg won 7: 6 (7: 0) and 6: 3 against Marcelo Arevalo from Honduras and the Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer. In the next round, Germany’s tennis star and his partner meet the American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.
Zverev has no good memories of either player. Paul beat him in three sets in the second round on Monday and Fritz won his quarter-final game against Zverev last year.
Rafael Nadal continued his impressive winning streak this year. The 35-year-old Spaniard won in the third round against Briton Daniel Evans 7: 5 and 6: 3. Nadal also remained undefeated in the 17th game of the year. He also celebrated his 400th win in a Masters tournament – more than any other player before him. Nadal’s next opponent is the American Reilly Opelka, who defeated Denis Shapovalov from Israel 6: 7 (4: 7), 6: 4 and 6: 4.
