France’s Caroline Garcia won the Bad Homburg tennis tournament. In the final against Bianca Andreescu, however, she needed three hard-fought sets.
The winner of the tennis tournament in Bad Homburg has been decided: Caroline Garcia from France defeated her Canadian opponent Andreescu in a thrilling match 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:4 in the final on Saturday.
The final lasted 2:46 hours before Garcia was able to convert her first match point. For the 28-year-old it is the eighth tournament victory on the WTA tour.
German top players cannot shine
Garcia had prevailed in the semifinals against her compatriot Alizé Cornet. For Andreescu, on the other hand, there was no semi-final – her opponent Simona Halep could not compete due to an injury.
The home tournament was anything but ideal for the top German players: Andrea Petkovic failed in the first round. For defending champion Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki it was over in the quarterfinals.
