Tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann caused a surprise at the clay court tournament in Gstaad, Switzerland.
The qualifier from Karlsruhe defeated the Chilean Cristian Garin 6:3, 6:4 in the first round.
Garin last drew attention to himself at Wimbledon when he was only stopped in the quarter-finals by eventual finalist Nick Kyrgios, and he has already won five titles on clay.
For Hanfmann (30), it was the first win on the ATP tour since February. In the round of 16 he will face either Garin’s compatriot Nicolas Jarry or Thiago Monteiro (Brazil).
