First time with Coach Bruguera
For the first time, Sascha Zverev has his new coach Sergi Bruguera with him at a Grand Slam. And the Spaniard, who himself won twice at Roland Garros in 1993 and 1994, seems to be having a good influence on the German. “I usually start Grand Slam tournaments with hour-long five-set matches, but Sergi said that shouldn’t be the case today,” joked Alexander Zverev after his opening success, and we realized: “I’m very satisfied. It was a good start for me.”

Zverev in form in time
After his surprising first round at the home tournament in Munich, Alexander Zverev made a strong impression again just in time for the hot phase of the clay court season. At the Masters events in Madrid and Rome, he reached the finals and semifinals in back-to-back weeks, cementing his third place in the world rankings. Here in Paris, too, the Hamburger got into the tournament well and defeated the Austrian Sebastian Ofner in three sets at the start.
