Fabio passes 6-2 6-3 and will face Otte for a place in the semifinals. No earlier than 4pm, the number 1 in the world against Kecmanovic. Musetti and Sonego in Spain, but it rains
Fabio Fognini qualified for the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 in Belgrade. The 34 year old blue now n. 62 in the ranking beat Slovenian Aljaz Bedene 6-2 6-3, world n.164. Match not exciting but solid with Fabio who gave up the serve at the start ending up 2-0. The scenario changed in the fourth game, which lasted 20 points, at the end of which the Ligurian, with the seventh useful ball, scored the 2-2 counter-break. From that moment Fognini rose slightly in level and that was enough to take the set 6-2 home. Fabio had to cancel a break even at the beginning of the second set (2-1). The Ligurian tried the extension again with another break (5-3) and this time he closed 6-3 at the second match point on a backhand buried in the net by his opponent. Tomorrow in the quarterfinals Fognini will face the German Oscar Otte, n.67, who beat Aslan Karatsev, n.30. In the afternoon it is again the turn of Novak Djokovic, who after fighting with Djere crosses the dangerous Kecmanovic.
