Jan-Lennard Struff has often impressed in the German Davis Cup team. If the German tennis men play against relegation in mid-September, the Sauerland will be missing.

The German Davis Cup team will have to do without Jan-Lennard Struff in the relegation relegation in Bosnia-Herzegovina in mid-September. The tennis professional (33), who has been out injured for around two months, announced his participation in the parallel show event in Frankfurt am Main, the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS), from September 15th to 17th.

“He’s not ready for the Davis Cup yet. The Davis Cup is too risky if he really wants to win there,” said Struff’s manager Corrado Tschabuschnig of the German Press Agency. The show event, on the other hand, is a suitable test for the injured hip as to whether the Sauerland can then return to the ATP tour. The UTS organizers had been looking for a German participant who is not tied to the Davis Cup for the event, for which international professionals such as the Russian Daniil Medvedev had previously agreed.

Struff paused due to hip injury

Struff has been pausing with a hip injury since his last appearance at the lawn tournament in Halle, Westphalia, in June. The German number two, who had previously been in strong form, had canceled for Wimbledon as well as for the upcoming US Open in New York (August 28 to September 10).

In the Davis Cup relegation, the German tennis men will play on September 16th and 17th in Mostar on clay to remain in the world group. It is unclear whether Olympic champion Alexander Zverev will be there shortly after the US Open.

At the beginning of February, the team with Zverev lost to Switzerland in Trier and thus missed qualifying for the group phase and the associated relegation.
