Matteo Berrettini starts off on the right foot in the penultimate round of the season. In view of the Davis Cup, the Roman tennis player chose Metz to finalize his preparation. On his debut in the French ATP 250 tournament, he easily beat the host Quentin Halys in two sets: 6-2 6-4 in just an hour and 3 minutes of play, thus gaining the pass to the round of 16. Lorenzo Sonego also wins in the first round. After the quarter-finals reached at the 500 tournament in Vienna, Berrettini decided to withdraw from the Masters 1000 in Paris, where he would have started from the qualifiers, to resume his season finale at the Moselle Open in Metz. The objective does not change: to refine the physical condition in view of the Davis Cup, which for Italy will start on November 19th in Bologna against Austria. In France, Matteo’s road starts from Quentin Halys and is immediately all downhill. In the first set, a double break in the first and fifth games was enough for him to neutralize the Frenchman’s serve and his runs to the net, preventing him from entering the match. Berrettini cancels only two break points in the whole match, those offered in the second game of the second set, then at 3-3 he breaks serve again and with yet another super first he easily closes his first round.
