Happy reason for a start cancellation at the US Open: Angelique Kerber is expecting her first child.

Angelique Kerber is expecting her first child. This was confirmed by the management of the 34-year-old three-time Grand Slam winner on Wednesday (08/24/2022). The Bild newspaper had previously reported on it.

For the next few months she will no longer be traveling around the world as a tennis player “for the best possible reason”, wrote the German number one on Instagram, who had to cancel the US Open: “I really wanted to play at the US Open, but ultimately I did but decided that two against one is not a fair competition.”

Among other things, Kerber posted a baby bottle and a heart.

Keep an eye on the Olympic Games

Kerber will not compete at the US Open this year (from August 29). Her pregnancy does not mean the end of her career. The former number one in the world is still eyeing the 2024 Olympic Games.

This means that the top German players are missing from the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, both for men and for women. The tournament comes too early for Alexander Zverev after his serious ankle injury.
