Only twelve days after his Wimbledon triumph, Spanish tennis world number one Carlos Alcaraz won his opening match at the Hopman Cup in Nice.
The 20-year-old won against Belgian David Goffin on Friday in 1:44 hours 4:6, 6:4, 10:8 and thus forced the doubles game on Friday evening against Goffin and Elise Mertens.
Alcaraz will compete alongside Rebeka Masarova in the traditional mixed competition, which will be held for the first time in three years. On Saturday Alcaraz and Masarova play against Donna Vekic and Borna Coric from Croatia.
