Ten Marechaussees suspended for discriminatory text messages

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) has suspended ten Marechaussee officers pending an investigation into “impermissible expressions” in a closed WhatsApp group. The Ministry of Defense reports that Wednesday† The messages exchanged would be discriminatory.

The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Public Prosecution Service, KMar writes. He further states that the ten suspended Marechaussees, all members of the work-related WhatsApp group, work for one team at Schiphol. The research focuses on ‘everyone’s involvement’. Any legal action that could be taken against the data subjects is also investigated.

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee further emphasizes that all employees are responsible ‘for a socially safe working environment’. Marechaussee officers are therefore expected to behave professionally, with integrity and respect towards colleagues and others. It is not clear whether all ten suspended military police have sent discriminatory text messages.
