Ten companies have a chance to win the Groninger Enterprise Award 2023. ‘Fifty-fifty division between City and Ommeland’

Wovar, Easy Toys and Oldenburger Fritom are three of the ten companies competing for the Groninger Ondernemersprijs 2023. The jury has announced this.

The prize is being awarded for the 25th time this year. The award ceremony is on November 30 in Martini Plaza.

Other nominated companies are ACS Groningen, Hessels Zeefbanden in Heiligerlee, Hovecon in Farmsum, Enshore in Groningen, Imageplusdigital in Zuidbroek, OVM Online Auctioneer in Groningen and the Vesta Meubelgroep also in Groningen.

“It has become a fifty-fifty division between the city and the Ommeland”, says jury member Yeelen Knegtering. Last year, his company Klippa won the Groninger Enterprise Award, which is why he is a member of the jury this year. “Nothing is set in advance about the relationship between the city and the province. As jury members, we only look at the quality of the companies and not at the location in the province. The result is a strong mix of online and offline companies from various industries.”

Research by specialists

The ten contenders are extensively interviewed, portrayed and filmed. They are also substantively examined by specialists from De Haan Advocaten & Notarissen, BDO Accountants & Adviseurs and Rabobank Groningen.

Partly on the basis of the results of these investigations, the jury will draw up a provisional ranking. This ranking can only be influenced by the pitch presentations that the candidates are allowed to give during the Nomination Meeting on Thursday 28 September at a Noorderpoort location. After each nominee has given a company presentation, the jury will announce the names of the three finalists.

These companies are all visited by the jury. Then he takes stock and decides who will be the winner. This year the jury also consists of chairman IJzebrand Rijzebol (deputy for Economic Affairs in Groningen. He will be replaced in the course of this year by the new deputy), Suzanne Snijder (Commercial Club Groningen), Paul Schreuders (XPAR Vision) and Albert Keizer (Next Generation Shipyards, winner 2021).
