Telstar wants to throw a wrecking ball against the east stand and play in the Eredivisie in 2026

Plans for a promenade under the current east stand have been shelved. The idea now is that the partial renovation of the stadium will start in the summer. The football club wants to do this as sustainably as possible. “Then we want to move the roof construction from the east stand to the north stand,” says Hammerstein.

Supporter numbers up

Supporter Leen Prins has been in the east stand for years. Together with a number of others, he sits on the board of the Telstar stadium development foundation. “You see that the number of visitors is increasing at every club that improves its accommodation. The current facilities are no longer up to date,” says Prins.

Procedures and financing

Once the construction drawings have been approved, the club can start working with the municipality for the procedures. The financing has not yet been finalized. “We are already talking about money and about the development of the stadium. What they want is to know what the total plan is and what the municipality also stands for,” said Hammerstein.

Telstar in Eredivisie

If we are to believe the plans, Telstar will play in the Eredivisie in 2026. That cry has been heard in the IJmond for a while, but Leen Prins is convinced that it will happen. “I seriously believe in that. I’m not saying that we can play there continuously, but it could have happened four years ago,” a serious Prince said.
