The bullet is through the church: Mike Snoei is the new trainer of Telstar. The White Lions have thus found the successor (and predecessor) of Andries Jonker. “There was a need within the club for a different kind of trainer,” says interim director Jakob Klompien.
Snoei’s name has been around at Telstar for a while. Earlier today it became clear that he would return to Velsen-Zuid. From mid-2017 to the summer of 2019, Snoei already stood for the group at the White Lions. In its first season, Telstar reached the play-offs after finishing sixth in the league.
Yet it is a striking choice, because it is a different type than Jonker. “I see Snoei purely as a result trainer for the A-selection. We expect less when it comes to the youth department, so we will have to interpret that in a different way,” says Klompien.
“He will become a real trainer. For the time being, we are using a technical committee that will serve as a sounding board”
Klompien takes the nineteenth place of last season “Telstar-unworthy”. Partly because of this, it was decided to focus more on the selection of the first team. Snoei will therefore not become a technical director, as Jonker was. “He will become a real trainer. For the time being, we are using a technical committee that will serve as a sounding board.”
Prune does not take assistants with him. This means that Antony Correia, Michael Dingsdag and goalkeeper coach Colin van der Meijden will form the technical staff together with Snoei. The coach has signed for one season with the option of another year.
The first training of the new season is on Monday 27 June.
