Telstar ‘only’ misses seven players against ADO: “alarm bells will go off at other clubs”

The light in The Hague is working again and the roof of the stadium has been partially repaired. As a result, Telstar will appear tomorrow evening for the make-up match against ADO. “The Hague is one of the strongest teams in the first division”, Andries Jonker looks ahead to the meeting.

The mood at Telstar was better this weekend than previous weekends. Last Friday, the White Lions won 1-0 against FC Dordrecht. “But given the opportunity ratio, perhaps there should have been more,” agrees Jonker. “If you shoot on target 22 times, once is not enough.”

many players

Against Dordrecht, ‘only’ seven players were missing from Telstar for medical reasons. “The alarm bells will ring at other clubs, but we are very pleased with that. So that is going in the right direction,” Jonker says about the emptying of the sick bay. In the coming week, Roscello Vlijter will leave the group because of an international match with Suriname against Thailand.

Furthermore, it is still uncertain whether Glynor Plet could start. The 35-year-old striker currently chooses his matches based on his feeling. Rein Smit, who was hit on the head against NAC, is not allowed to take action yet to prevent damage due to the protocol of the KNVB.

“A fresh football team with a lot of support from the public. The Hague is one of the strongest teams in the first division,” says Jonker about the upcoming opponent. “Without the penalty points and the unrest within the club, they would have gone even further.” Despite the compliments to ADO, Jonker doesn’t like to be more defensive. “We played ahead against PSV and Volendam. We are going to do that now. We are really not going to adapt to The Hague and then we’ll see where the ship ends up.”

Season end

Telstar will face a tough program in the coming weeks. With matches against ADO Den Haag, FC Emmen, FC Eindhoven, Excelsior, Roda JC and FC Den Bosch. “There are people who think that we play for bacon and beans. But we can always raise the white flag. In general, we come out strong against decent teams.”

There will be an extra radio broadcast from NH Sport tomorrow evening from 7 p.m., so that you can follow ADO Den Haag – Telstar directly. Erik-Jan Brinkman and Frank van der Meijden provide the match commentary.
