Telstar misses 27 times, but jubilee Glynor Plet gives a scoring lesson in vain

Once again Telstar earned more than it received. The team from Velsen lost 2-1 to MVV Maastricht, but had many more chances than the home team. Substitute Glynor Plet saw his team kill chance after chance and scored the only goal as a substitute. With that, he crowned himself Telstar’s all-time top scorer (88 goals) in the league. Plet has left Sander Oostrom behind.

“This is the story of the season,” says Anthony Correia, who did the honors of the suspended Mike Snoei in Maastricht. In the first half Telstar ran into a 2-0 deficit within half an hour. It was quite an open house with the goals against, but according to Correia that had to do with the offensive tactics. “We knew that only a three-pointer could save us. That’s how the players did it.”

After the defeat in Maastricht, the play-offs have become impossible for Telstar. The White Lions were in the race for a long time, but the lack of scoring ability seems to be killing the team. “With a bit of luck, the plan could have worked out better,” says Correia. “There was a great keeper on goal and we didn’t shoot them great.”

Significantly, Glynor Plet immediately took the first chance. The club’s top scorer came within the lines at half-time and, at the age of 36, still proves to be of value. “It certainly could have been more, but that is already with several games this season,” says the striker, who compliments his team on the steps it has taken. “If the chances also go in, that promises something.”
