Telstar makes little progress with a draw against Willem II

Telstar had enough chances in the match against Willem II, but it didn’t yield anything. It therefore remained extremely exciting until the end, 0-0. This does not help the White Lions, since competitor VVV-Venlo also drew against Helmond Sport (1-1).

To keep the small chance of play-offs alive, Telstar had to beat Willem II at home. However, it was the Tilburgers who first became dangerous. Elton Daniel Kabangu shot just in front of Telstar’s goal. Out of the mess there was almost a lucky goal for the home team. Goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou was able to keep Erik Schouten’s touched ball out of the goal. The White Lions were no longer dangerous before the break. Rijpenaar Jizz Hornkamp was still close for Willem II in the first half.

After the break, Yayha Boussakou gave David Min a tight cross. However, the tall striker did not get his head behind the ball well enough. Melvin de Leeuw was very dangerous in the counter-punch, but goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. kept his team going. Just before the end of the game, Min got the chance to score the 1-0. DJ Buffonge’s cross was extended by the striker, but the ball was cleared just before the line.

A tumultuous final phase followed, in which Min still made 1-0. However, this goal was disallowed for a pushing error. In the consternation, trainer Mike Snoei received a red card. It made no difference to the result. Due to the draw, Telstar is stuck in ninth place. ADO Den Haag and Jong AZ can still get over Telstar if they win on Monday.

Setup Telstar: Koeman; Boussakou (Plet/63), Apau, Aktas, Oude Kotte, Turfkruier; Overtoom, Bensabouh (Buffonge/81), Najah; Giousis, Min
