Telstar lost 1-0 to De Graafschap in an attractive match. In a match that could go either way, Giovanni Korte scored the only goal of the evening.
Telstar trainer Mike Snoei opted for a 4-3-3 formation and immediately gave the new Greek acquisition Giousis a basic place. The Greek scored 17 goals in the second team of AEK Athens last season and was very active in his first game for Telstar.
Battle in the midfield
Both teams had chances in the first half, but slowly but surely Telstar took the initiative. In the 28th minute, Cain Seedorf was able to head in freely, but he headed over from close range. After that, De Graafschap was close to a goal. Giovanni Korte tried from a great distance and the ball went through the crossbar and the back of keeper Ronald Koeman Jr. and eventually went wide.
Bad start
The first chance in the second half was for the visitors. Charlison Benschop had a huge chance for the header, but his attempt went wide. It went wrong for Telstar in the 50th minute. Korte slid in a cross from close range.
Telstar did not give in and went looking for the equalizer. Substitute Tom Overtoom tried from a distance, but his bet went over the top.
