The meeting between Telstar and Jong AZ in Wijdewormer was won by the home team. That victory came in the second half when Iman Griffith scored the winning goal: 3-2. Telstar took the lead twice in the first half, but gave it away just as quickly.
The opening phase was for Telstar in Wijdewormer. After twenty minutes, that also led to the opening goal. A header from Özgür Aktas was unable to control Young AZ goalkeeper Boy Reus, after which Rein Smit was able to score easily: 0-1.
Four goals in the first half
That did not cause panic among the Alkmaar promises, because it was already six minutes into the game. Zico Buurmeester headed the ball over keeper Ronald Koeman Jr. after a standard situation. The men of trainer Andries Jonker were also not impressed, because after more than half an hour of football, it was Glynor Plet who took care of 1-2 from a cross by Randy Wolters. Referee Luca Cantineau saw that the ball had barely crossed the goal line.
It didn’t stay there in the first half, because Buurmeester recorded his second of the evening in the fortieth minute. After a quick combination, the midfielder fired the ball with the right into the bottom left corner.
Winning goal Young AZ
Both teams were evenly matched after the break. The best chances, however, were for the home side. Substitute Mexx Meerdink, for example, missed two dots of opportunities, but captain Griffith did have his sights on sharp. He cut in and curled the ball in the far corner behind Koeman Jr. At that time there were still fourteen minutes on the clock in Wijdewormer
Telstar insisted emphatically in the final phase, but that did not yield an equalizer. Tom Overtoom had the 3-3 on his shoe in injury time, but Reus made a good save. As a result, Jong AZ is on the same level with the Velsenaren in the ranking. Both teams have 29 points and are therefore thirteenth and fourteenth respectively.
