Mattila passed away when she was only 45 years old. Pekka, who died of a sudden illness, slept away at home. He was found dead during the night.

One touching detail in Hannu’s writing is that he tells Peka that he passed from time to eternity in the company of their beloved dog.

– At the time of departure, he was accompanied by our dog Shurik. Old Shurik is doing well considering the circumstances, but he is just as surprised by the situation as I am, Hannu says.
