Will it continue ‘just’ after all? The hope of celebrating an old-fashioned carnival is increasing now that the cabinet plans to implement more and more corona relaxation. A final decision will be made next week. But the carnival artists notice it too, their telephone is red hot.
“The rumors that there will be white smoke are spreading like wildfire through the carnival world,” says record boss Adrie van den Berk. He has several artists under contract with Berk Music Productions in Eindhoven. He has Snollenbollekes, the Ko Brothers, the Avalancheboys, the Alpenzusjes and Jan Biggel in his stable.
“We had already drawn the bow.”
“About three or four weeks ago I already said that they can no longer stop carnival given the course of this corona variant. last minute because people are a bit hesitant. But we had already drawn the bow, let me put it this way.”
According to him, the somewhat cheaper artists are ‘all gone’. “Because cafes want to put down something easy.” According to him, it is a bit quieter with the artists for the major events. “But you notice that it is now starting. Because you can already organize something for five hundred people. And I hope that we will get a little more space.”
“This is going to be one big blast!”
Carnival artist Lamme Frans – better known as Rob Janssen in daily life – can hardly believe that carnival seems to be starting in two weeks. “We couldn’t have dreamed that at all,” he responds. “This is going to be a big explosion, we’re going to get going again. All of Brabant and Limburg are going straight through the wallpaper!”
Lamme Frans’ agenda is not yet fully booked. “I haven’t been called much for performances yet,” he says Friday morning. “But my phone is on. After the press conference next Tuesday, everyone can call. I’ll just come, no problem!”
“I’m totally nervous!”
Dorien Habraken of the Dorinis is also bouncing with enthusiasm now that carnival seems to be able to continue. “I have a completely nervous feeling”, she says, “That I think: oh, is it really going to happen again?! It seems that with this omikron variant we dare to let go of all the rules a bit. a bit like a flu and that everyone thinks: it’s possible again, we think it’s responsible again.”
Due to all the corona restrictions, the Boxtel carnival artist has seen one planned performance after another canceled in recent months. But when it was announced at the end of January that the bars could open again, she regained hope. Despite the limitations at the time. She touted herself as an affordable artist who can get people excited and who also fits in a small setting.
“I think it’s going wild in every village and every city.”
That resulted in some bookings for so-called ‘seated carnival parties’. “But now that it looks like everything is going off, the phone is ringing red hot. I’m almost fully booked, except for a few gaps on Monday! Every day I’m sliding in my agenda to get a bit of logical planning. times, because first it was announced that the pub was allowed to open until ten o’clock in the evening, then the end time became midnight and now one o’clock in the morning.”
She notices that people are very enthusiastic about celebrating carnival, after all the corona restrictions since 2020. “I think it is going wild in every village and in every city. It’s great that people think of us. are all!”
“I now want to experience Carnival a little more intensely.”
But it doesn’t have to be as hectic for her personally as it was in 2020. “That you have so many performances that you can only be somewhere for half an hour because you have to continue immediately. I now want to experience it more intensely with my friends and stay another hour. hang out to really experience the carnival with the people in the pub.”
