Telekom MagentaMobil Prepaid: More data volume and 5G

After Deutsche Telekom has already adjusted its MagentaZuhause Internet tariffs and is offering them as a monthly flex option if desired, it is now the turn of the mobile phone tariffs. Customers with MagentaMobil Prepaid get more data volume and now also 5G in the smallest tariff.

In recent months, more and more mobile phone discounters have activated 5G in their prepaid tariffs. Telekom has been allowing its prepaid users to surf via 5G for a long time. Until now, however, the smallest option, the MagentaMobil Prepaid S, was excluded from this. That’s changing now. At the same time, the tariffs get more data volume without the price increasing. For customers, this means more performance for their money.

Telekom MagentaMobil Prepaid with more data volume

The new tariff conditions apply from September 20th to both new and existing customers, provided they use a tariff booked after May 2022. MagentaMobil Prepaid S is receiving the biggest upgrade, because in the future there will not only be 1 GB instead of 500 MB of data volume, Telekom is also enabling 5G. The fast mobile phone standard was previously missing from the 4.95 euro offer, meaning customers could only surf via LTE. However, the other conditions do not change. The tariff also includes a telephone and SMS flat rate on the Telekom network as well as 50 free minutes on all German networks.

Telekom’s other prepaid tariffs, on the other hand, come with an all-net flat rate. Users here have had access to 5G for a long time. However, in the future you will also receive more data volume. In the MagentaMobil Prepaid M tariff, this increases from 3 GB to 4 GB. With Prepaid L there is an increase of 3 GB, meaning a total of 8 GB in the future, and with Prepaid XL the included data volume increases from 7 GB to a whopping 18 GB. Only the MagentaMobil Prepaid Max remains untouched, as it has always included an unlimited data volume.

Telekom has also adjusted its annual tariff. This costs a one-time fee of 99.95 euros and is valid for twelve months. Until now, in addition to the Allnet flat rate, there was a data volume of 3 GB every month, i.e. a total of 36 GB. However, from September 20th this will increase to 48 GB, which corresponds to 4 GB per month.

When looking at the tariff details, it is noticeable that users do not necessarily surf the internet faster despite 5G access. Because 5G for prepaid tariffs, like LTE, allows a maximum of 300 Mbit/s downstream. Compared to LTE, users have the advantage of less busy networks and therefore better coverage.

TECHBOOK means

“The current adjustments within Telekom’s prepaid tariffs cannot be described other than: Great! At least customers now get more performance for the same price, which isn’t the case too often. The increase in data volume is enormous, especially with the more expensive tariffs. The Prepaid XL is even competitive with the cheaper discounter offers.

I personally find the adjustment in the prepaid S somewhat unspectacular, but very important. Although it only gets 500 MB more data, it will also offer 5G from September 20th and will therefore catch up with the other tariffs. It’s just a shame that users still have to make do with inclusive minutes; an all-network flat rate would have been the icing on the cake. But then the tariff would certainly become more expensive.

The increasing availability of 5G in many prepaid offers on the market shows how important the fast mobile communications standard has now become. Even if users are often not yet able to utilize the full performance because the technical implementation is based on the old LTE masts and the speeds are therefore limited, 5G still offers the advantage that networks are less full.” – Rita Deutschbein, editorial director
