The management of the Telegram messenger blocked 64 channels at the request of the German government and police, reported edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing sources in the security services.
“Telegram should no longer be an accelerator for right-wing extremists, conspiracy theorists and other agitators,” Home Secretary Nancy Feather said.
She added that the messenger should delete messages that incite hatred or contain death threats.
According to the newspaper, the leadership of the messenger was put under pressure by the Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Criminal Police Office. In early February, the authorities noticed calls for violence in Telegram and initiated a conversation with the management of the messenger. According to the publication, using the application, people spread false information about the coronavirus, and the radical opposition also communicated there.
