No net
There were widespread outages in Deutsche Telekom’s mobile network on Monday morning. The problem was a software bug.
The note “No network” was emblazoned on many smartphones in Berlin that morning. The reason seemed to be a major disruption in Telekom’s mobile network. Since around 8 a.m. this morning, reports have been piling up on pages like “allfaults“.
Telekom disruption in Berlin
Most of the reports came from the greater Berlin area. There were also a few other regions where users also reported a Telekom disruption. The TECHBOOK editors were able to verify the failures. The network failed in districts such as Pankow, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Zehlendorf. Sometimes the outages there lasted only a few minutes, in other districts they lasted longer.
Affected people were also looking for help on Telekom’s Twitter channel:
When asked by TECHBOOK, Telekom confirmed the failures: “Around 1,500 cell phone masts in Berlin and the surrounding area were unable to transmit from 8:45 a.m. to 9:21 a.m. due to a software error,” said a spokesman. The company has now been able to fix the problem and apologizes to theaffected customers.
