After top performances in the FC Bayern jersey, thoughts recently arose about the possible naturalization of Sturm-Juwel Mathys Tel, and DFB sports director Rudi Völler also did not rule out a change of association for the Frenchman. Now the 18-year-old’s advisor has spoken out on the topic.
“No one spoke to us about this possibility. We saw Rudi Völler’s statement, and that shows that all German people love Mathys and his work,” said Tel agent Gadiri Camara on “Sky”.
The attacker is currently with the French U21 team for the first time and could make his debut against the Bosnian juniors on Friday. Since the U17, Tel has played for every youth team in France.
Agent Camara made it clear: “To be honest, Mathys is focused on the U21s. I don’t want to burden his head with that.”
Tel’s upswing at FC Bayern is arousing interest
Tel was born in Sarcelles in the north of Paris in 2005 and made his professional breakthrough at Stade Rennes. In 2022, FC Bayern put an impressive 20 million euros on the table to bring the exceptional talent to Munich.
After a promising debut season, Tel recently went a step further and became a super joker under coach Thomas Tuchel. He has already scored six times in eleven matches.
When DFB sports director Rudi Völler was recently asked about a possible Tel future in the Germany jersey in a “Bild” program, he replied: “Of course he’s a great striker. You can certainly try.”
At the same time, Völler avoided putting pressure on Tel. “In the end, the player himself and the family decide,” said the 63-year-old, who admitted: “The roots are very French.”
In fact, the association of the 2018 world champion is firmly planning on Tel, who received special praise from U21 coach Thierry Henry just a few days ago.
