The elevator was stuck at a depth of around seven meters – and in it three young people!
At around 7:40 p.m., the Berlin fire brigade was alerted to the Hermannstrasse S-Bahn and U-Bahn station on Monday evening. Three young people had been in the U8 elevator for over an hour.
But the lift got stuck at the bottom. The operations management of the fire brigade decided to alert the technical service and the high-altitude rescue service.
After the arrival of the high-altitude rescuers and a brief inspection of the situation, things went quickly. The rescuers equipped themselves and attached their rope teams to a fire truck and descended into the shaft.
Among the young people was an asthmatic who was dependent on his medication. The young people were therefore brought to the surface in priority order. There they could be loudly received by a larger crowd of relatives.
The relatives repeatedly entered the roadway of Hermannstraße and had to be held back by the police.
An RTW crew checked the young men one by one in the ambulance. All were doing well given the circumstances.
They could then be sent home with their families.
