It would be a normal boat trip in Assendelft, but nothing could be further from the truth: Ise (12) and Hanna (13) have found a chameleon. In the Waterrijk district they saw the animal and decided to save it: “We grabbed a paddle and let it walk on it.” Yet panic broke out when the chameleon ran loose in the boat.
“Me and a friend were sailing,” says Ise. She has just recovered from the shock, but still sees the event clearly. With the paddle she tried to get the animal into a bucket. This failed and the chameleon ran loose in the boat.
Owner wanted
Ise: “We found that very scary and started screaming.” At a certain point, the girls get hold of the chameleon together and they can continue sailing peacefully. They call their parents, who call the animal ambulance again. “They didn’t know what to do. They had never had such a report,” says Ise’s mother.
After an hour, the animal is picked up by the animal ambulance. The owner is unknown at this time. “We think he ran away or was dumped.” Ise and Hanna hope that the owner will report and the chameleon can go home.
NH Nieuws has requested a response from the animal ambulance. As soon as it is in, the article will be supplemented.
