Marijn doesn’t like that waiting, when asked what he liked least about the entire process. Wessel: “I liked the city council best.” The rest of the youth from Meppel can’t wait, and couldn’t either. During and after the construction of the pumptrack track in the Ringpark in the Oosterboer, fences will be placed around the track. So that it is not already being used. The track has yet to harden. Those fences could not withstand the waiting.
“The fences were broken early on,” says alderman Klaas de Vries, who lives around the corner. “Oh, it shows how much the youth want this.” The fences have been removed, because today is the official opening. “I would like to kindly ask you all to leave the job,” says youth worker Myrthe Lugtmeier. But that’s easier said than done. The track is already in full use by skaters, children with scooters, BMXers and rollerbladers. Then try to hold an official opening, with the necessary speeches.
