A 19-year-old motorist crashed with his Audi into the law firm of Smit & De Hart Advocaten on Sunday evening at the Y-junction of the Taalstraat with the Helvoirtseweg in Vught. The man immediately had to surrender his driver’s license.
Officers saw the motorist racing past around a quarter to eleven on the Taalstraat at a speed much higher than the 50 kilometers per hour that is allowed there.
Out of sight
The officers then decided to check the driver. The moment the officers wanted to turn their car to go after the Audi, the driver increased his speed even further and disappeared from sight.
When the officers had turned their official car and went after the Audi, they saw that the car had crashed at the Y-junction of Taalstraat with Helvoirtseweg. The vehicle came to a stop in the curve against the law firm. This building sustained significant damage.
A collision with a few passing cyclists could barely be avoided.
‘He was driving at a speed!’
“That man drove very fast towards the center,” says a local resident. She was walking her dog on Sunday evening when she saw the motorist racing past. “Really with an emergency!”
A few seconds later she also saw the police car pass by, but by then the driver had already driven the Audi against the facade of the law firm.
Driving license taken
The damage to the law firm is significant, according to a 112 correspondent. A lamppost with traffic signs was also driven out of the ground.
The driver – a man from Vught – was taken to a hospital. He was conscious and approachable when the officers arrived. He tested negative for drunk driving.
