The Israeli army says soldiers were pelted with stones and Molotov cocktails during a patrol. “The military reacted sharply when one suspect hit,” the army said. The soldiers are said to have provided first aid, after which the victim was handed over to the aid organization Red Crescent.
Violence has flared up in Israel and the Palestinian territories since late March, killing dozens of people. In particular, the death of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed earlier this month by possible targeted bullets from the Israeli army, sparked outrage at home and abroad.
