Teenager (15) injured by father’s shot during wild boar hunt | Abroad

The teenager accompanied his father on a wild boar hunt organized by the local hunting club last Sunday. Both father and son stood in the same place, out of sight of the other participants, but given the young age the victim was not carrying a weapon.

Around 2 p.m., the father fired the shot, which “seriously” injured his son’s knee. The artery was hit, but the injury turned out to be “never life-threatening,” said Mathieu Riffier, head of the local police zone.

The teenager was transferred to the University Hospital of Clermont-Ferrand where he remains today. “We are probably dealing with something that happened accidentally, but at this point we don’t know exact details,” Riffier said.

The president of the hunters’ federation explained that “when an accident happens, it is almost always a mistake due to non-compliance with the rules.”

The father and son will be questioned when the 15-year-old’s health conditions allow it.
