Leading the Rally2 class in Portugal by far Teemu Suninen rushed his outing into the woods in the final special stage.

– The game is over for us. This was definitely not the way I would have wanted to end the Portuguese rally, because everything was in possession before the last ek. I’m sorry for the team and the fans, Suninen said on Twitter after the outing.

Suninen and co-driver Mikko Markkula survived the rush without injury. The audience was also in the danger zone, but apparently none of the spectators were injured either, even though Sunisen Hyundai slid dangerously into the woods in the direction of the spectators.

Suninen led the class by 57.4 seconds ahead of the final, but with the suspension, the Frenchman gasped Yohan Rossel.
