Teemu Selänne, who is spending his summer vacation in Finland, has followed the political debate of the last few weeks with interest.
The most recent political uproar has been aimed at Minister of Economy Vilhelm Junnila (ps), who announced on Friday that he was resigning from his position.
Selänne told Iltalehte his views on the events of the past few days in connection with the traditional Bermuda tournament.
– It’s been quite a circus. I think that you have to understand jokes, but you also have to understand what you’re joking about.
Among other things, Junnila has joked about the use of the election number 88, which refers to the “Heil Hitler” greeting.
– Nowadays, no one should make jokes like that, Selänne states.
The ice hockey legend is also saddened by the current climate of political debate.
– The other side is that people get angry just because they can get angry.
– Even now that Pori Suomi-arena caused sympathy when people don’t know how to have a proper conversation, Selänne regrets.
Selänne hopes for better behavior from politicians.
– Terrible shouting and talking over the top. They set a bad example when our decision makers don’t know how to behave.
