Teemu Puki’s news made me sad – a great piece of Suomi from a Norwich fan

Teemu Puki’s departure from Norwich is a tough place for many supporters.

Teemu Pukki leaves Norwich. PDO

On Wednesday, the English Championship team Norwich City announced that the team and Teemu Pukin part ways after the season ends. The Finnish striker has represented the Canary Islands since the summer of 2018 and no longer wanted to renew his contract.

The solution was expected, but it still caused a feeling of sadness among the club’s fans. Pukki, who was the team’s number one striker for five seasons, played a big role both times when Norwich was promoted to the Premier League in 2021 and 2019. The player who scored a total of 88 goals for the club can repeat his trick one more time, as Norwich’s promotion dreams are still alive.

The announcement published on Norwich’s social media gathered several comments, in which the adjectives “legend” and “the greatest of all time (goat)” were repeated. Of course, the latter has been one of Puki’s nicknames for a long time.

There were also suggestions from fans on how Norwich could honor their player who scored the fourth most goals in the club’s history. One repeated wish, or rather demand, was that Pukki would play in the last match of the season against Blackpool.

The second wish was more visible and long-lasting. One commenter wants Norwich to make a blue and white jersey for the 2023-2024 season.

– For the season 2023-2023, Mites would have a blue and white away or third shirt in honor of our legend Teemu Puki, one fan tweeted.

The club’s main colors have been known to be yellow and green, but it has used blue and white jerseys for its away shirts.

In addition to the club’s official account, Norwich City FC’s charity department also remembered Pukki by publishing pictures of the Finn.

– Thanks for everything, Teemu, Norwich City CSF wrote.

“A fine person”

Puki’s head coach David Wagner sat down in front of the reporters after the news was revealed and praised his outgoing attacker.

– Teemu is a wonderful player and scorer who has created and continues to create his legacy here. He is also a really great person, Wagner says and adds that he has known about Puki’s departure for a long time.

Wagner fully understands Puki’s desire to leave.

– I fully respect his decision to seek new challenges and experiences. I hope this story gets the ending that Teemu deserves.

In addition to the goalscorer, the team loses a good “dressing room player”.

– It is always a great pleasure when there is a person in the dressing room with whom you can talk, who is calm, reflective and understands football, commented Wagner.

Puki and Norwich have seven matches left in the Championship Series. The Canaries are in seventh place and four points behind their next opponent, Blackburn. After the regular season, those who finished 3rd to 6th in the series still compete with each other for the last place in the series.
