The students made an airplane.
Students from SBO Delta have been taking technology lessons for the past month and a half at the Dollard College’s practical education facility in Winschoten. On Thursday they completed their assignment and thus earned a certificate.
An airplane was made of wood on a metal base, using different techniques and tools. The skills were graded on the certificate. “This is more fun than the craft classes at school,” said one of the students.
The school has been working for some time within the ‘Strong Technology Education (STO)’ project. All kinds of lessons, such as painting work and ICT lessons; programming and robotics are included.
In the coming week, the technology teacher, Mr. Meulman, will welcome a new group of students; “Hopefully they are just as enthusiastic and eager to learn as this group. I actually expect that because technology is a very broad and challenging part.”
If the students are eligible for practical education, the students will, in addition to technology, also work on greenery, cooking, textiles and many more practical subjects. Theory is also linked to practical assignments. Practical education students receive (sector) certificates when they have completed a component. Since 2019, Practical Education can be completed with a diploma.
