TeamNL decides to play with three medals less than Pyeongchang

The Netherlands ends the Olympic Games with three medals less than at the previous Games in Pyeongchang. Thanks to the gold of long track skater Irene Schouten, TeamNL in Beijing received seventeen medals of honor: eight gold medals, five silver and four bronze.

Four years earlier, the Netherlands also won eight golds. Then there were more silver (six) and bronze (six) medals to celebrate, bringing the total to twenty.

At the most successful Winter Games ever, in Sochi 2014, the Orange formation achieved 24 medals (eight gold, seven silver and nine bronze).

The lower score now is due to the long track skaters. In Pyeongchang they won sixteen medals, now there are twelve. Just like in 2018, the short trackers came in at four places. Kimberley Bos provided a first with the first Dutch Olympic medal in the skeleton.

In Vancouver (2010), TeamNL won only eight medals: four gold, one silver and three bronze.
