Will Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner also be responsible for the fortunes of the sister racing team in Formula 1 in the future? Motorsport consultant Helmut Marko has now fueled corresponding rumors with a statement.
Red Bull Racing has been racing on the world’s Formula 1 tracks since the 2005 season, and a year later the Austrian drinks manufacturer’s junior racing team was added, which first took part in the F1 World Championship under Scuderia Toro Rosso and later as AlphaTauri and from 2025 will compete with a new name. “Racing Bulls” is currently considered the most likely basic variant.
What remains the same: Red Bull Racing and the sister team have always had a close connection. AlphaTauri took over the so-called transferable components, which are permitted by the regulations, from the Red Bulls in recent years, on the one hand to save money and on the other hand to achieve performance advantages.
Will the “Racing Bulls” even use the services of Red Bull’s successful team boss Christian Horner in the near or distant future? When asked by the Austrian portal “oe24” what was true about the rumors that Horner would be promoted to higher-level boss for the two (!) F1 teams, Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko fueled the speculation.
“There are different trends and variants,” confirmed the 80-year-old and added: “The decisions are still open.”
The previous AlphaTauri team has actually only hired a new team boss. Laurent Mekies succeeds Franz Tost, who retired at the end of the year. A managing director, Peter Bayer, was also installed a few months ago. It is therefore unclear what a corresponding dual role for Horner could look like.
Formula 1: Close connection between the “Red Bull teams”
Horner, however, is not only in close contact with the sister racing team through his existing contacts with staff and drivers, such as Daniel Ricciardo, who went from being a Red Bull substitute to an AlphaTauri driver during the season. With the marketing agency Creative Artists Agency, which has been working for his team for years, he recently brought a new partner to the sister racing team in order to create further synergies.
According to “motorsport-magazin.com”, the agency in question should also create the new title partner for the aspiring “Racing Bulls”. Visa and Cash App are traded.
Meanwhile, the Formula 1 competition has been worried for a long time due to the sports-political power that the Red Bull company has through two racing teams in the premier class of motorsport. Should Horner actually act as double team boss at some point, these concerns are unlikely to diminish.
