The Canadian’s career is intended to be brought closer to home using archive, interview and concert material.
The Berlinale will be taking place in the capital for the 74th time from February 15th to 25th. Also at the film festival: a documentary about Merrill Nisker, aka Peaches.
With “Teaches of Peaches,” filmmakers Philipp Fussenegger and Judy Landkammer want to show how the musician, born in Toronto in 1966, was able to become such a musical and feminist icon. They provide a mix of archive material and new recordings – including concert clips and interviews. The work will be shown in the “Panorama” section of the Berlinale program.
The archive recordings probably come from Peaches’ private possessions. Interviews were conducted with her specifically for the documentation, but also with (former) companions. The film will also contain footage from “The Teaches of Peaches Anniversary Tour”. The press release goes on to say that the work chronicles “the Canadian Merrill Nisker’s path to becoming the internationally celebrated artist Peaches” on film. There is currently no trailer.
“Teaches of Peaches” will also be shown in cinemas after the Berlinale – but a release date for the big screen remains unknown at this time.
