Teachers from Assen in clothing stress, but looking forward to Prinsjesdag

“This is set one. Be very honest, what do you think?”, teacher Karin Kingma shouts enthusiastically towards her crafts class. With a lot of open mouths, a few ‘woohoo’s’ and some clapping they answer her question. “Are you honest? Set two will be coming soon, won’t you!”

Kingma is one of the two residents of Assen who will be able to experience Prinsjesdag in The Hague up close this year. She calls it an honour, and is more than happy to take the clothing stress for granted.

A few kilometers away at another CS Vincent van Gogh location, gym teacher Christel de Jong stands in front of her bilingual sports class. Full of enthusiasm, she gives instructions on how to make her students jump well. But in the back of her mind she is secretly already a bit in the preparations for tomorrow.

“Yes, why me?”, I thought when Mayor Marco Out invited me. Each year, one municipality in Drenthe may choose two ‘ordinary’ citizens to attend Prinsjesdag. This year it was Assen’s turn and Out opted for two teachers. “I think he also wants to show that he thinks education is important,” De Jong thinks aloud.
