Teacher shortage: schools cancel exams because students did not receive course material

In Izegem students of the Prizma school campus VTI do not have an exam in Dutch and no exam in English. The director calls that really problematic.

Five classes from the fifth and sixth secondary school are now not given an exam for those subjects because they did not receive the course material.

“Of course, when it comes to English, our school is very strongly committed to international projects. The students need a lot of language skills for that, which are also taught to them through colleagues, so it’s not that their future is completely ruined because they I didn’t get Dutch and English, but I don’t want to sweep it under the rug. I think it’s a problem,” says Myriam Devriendt of Prizma campus VTI.

The profession of teacher must be more attractive, it sounds again here. For example, the director feels that taking ten years of seniority is too little for those who enter later. The director was still able to start with a full teaching staff on 1 September, but like many colleagues, she is already holding onto her heart for next school year.
