Teacher in Huizen suspended due to possible transgressive behavior in group 3 students

A teacher of the PCBS Beatrixschool in Huizen has been suspended because of possible transgressive behaviour. These are children of group 3, aged 5 and 6 years. The police are currently investigating.

Last Friday, the first report of transgressive behavior came in at the Huizer primary school. “During the weekend there was contact between a number of parents. On Monday morning there was an emotional meeting with the parents themselves,” says Elies Kok, director of the school umbrella organization Ichthus, which includes the Beatrix School. Other reports of transgressive behavior also emerged during this meeting.

“These reports led to an immediate suspension of the teacher. We must be a safe school for our students and also protect our staff. That is our priority.”

The police are now investigating. In the context of the ongoing investigation, Kok cannot say anything about what kind of transgressive behavior it concerns and the number of reports. “It concerns a number of reports,” says the shaken driver.

Youth and Family

For the students of this group 3, the lessons are now taken over by the other teachers. “We want lessons to continue for these students. We want to make it as easy as possible for them.”

The school has also contacted Youth and Family of the GGD who can provide further support to students and answer questions from shocked parents. “They have the expertise for this.” There will be an extra parent evening next week.

Statement Concerning Behavior

The teacher in question had been working at the Beatrix School for six months. “We enjoyed working with him during the first months of this school year and when this happens you are very shocked.” The teacher in question had a VOG (Verklaring Omtrent Behaviour) which you need to enter the teaching profession.

During his application procedure, the teacher did say that a report of transgressive behavior had been made about him in the private sphere. But it has been shelved and no further investigation has been done into it. “He was very open about this during the application procedure and we discussed this with the director of the school.” So the teacher was hired.

The teacher has now been suspended as part of the investigation. “There is a hearing from both sides. We are obliged to do so as an employer.”
