“Over the past three years, I have made my substantive contribution to the sporting successes of Heracles Almelo with heart and soul,” Gilissen said. “There are many beautiful moments. After the recent relegation, the board and I have come to the conclusion that we will pave the way for a speedy return of the club to the Eredivisie.”
Bredewoud had been active in Almelo as chairman of the board since 2017. Bredewoud says: ,,Every year I have devoted myself to our club with all my heart and soul. The past season was characterized by extremes and contradictions. We have all done everything we can to protect the club from relegation. Unfortunately, that did not work out to our regret. From the bottom of my heart I wish the club, the supporters and sponsors sporting prosperity for the future and a speedy return to the Eredivisie.”
Heracles Almelo seemed easy to maintain this season, but in the final phase of the season it all went wrong. During the last round of play, the team lost against Sparta and had to maintain itself through the play-offs. That went wrong against Excelsior without the fired Frank Wormuth.
