Taylor Swift: This is how her fans stimulate the economy

Good for everyone? Swifties are ready to spend tons of money on the musician.

With her over 280 million followers on Instagram, the 34-year-old has a large following, but that’s not all – Taylor Swift also has a particularly willing one to pay. The price for a concert ticket is between 180 and 750 euros, depending on where, how and when you get a ticket. Fans pay the sum without batting an eyelash. And that’s not all: No matter where and on which continent Swift is for a show – Swifties pay a lot on top of that for accommodation, food and drinks. Plus: You can also open your wallet at the merch stand and shop extensively. The singer is also a real box office hit for venues.

The pop star is coming to Germany for seven concerts in the summer of 2024 and here too, an increase in the local economy can already be seen. The “Bild” tells Dr. Christian Rusche, economist for competition and structural change at the Cologne Institute of German Economics, explains how the Swift shows have already affected the economy in the United States. “A study for the USA estimates Taylor Swift’s contribution to US economic output at 4.6 billion US dollars,” said Rusche.

A fan spends the equivalent of 1,200 euros on Taylor Swift

“On average, each Taylor Swift concert attendee spent more than $1,300,” Dr. Christian Rusche. If you extrapolate this value to all gigs, “it becomes clear what a boost fan consumption can have,” the economist continues. According to him, however, the purchasing power of US fans cannot be transferred 1:1 to German Swift lovers. “However, a three-digit million amount seems possible for Germany.”
