After FEARLESS, SPEAK NOW and RED, Taylor Swift is now releasing her fifth studio album 1989 in a newly recorded version. In addition to well-known hits, 1989 (TAYLOR’S VERSION) contains five more unreleased tracks from the singer’s “The Vault” archive.
“My name is Taylor and I was born in 1989,” the musician simply announces her new version of the 2014 work on Instagram. Not only did the album mark her transition from country to pop music, it was also the one that made Swift the record-breaking star she is today. The musician stormed the charts with hits like “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off” and “Style.” The record received ten Grammy nominations and was nominated for Album of the Year, Best Pop Album and Best Music Video for the single “Bad Blood”. 1989 peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and spent its entire first year in the top ten.
“The album 1989 changed my life in countless ways. To be completely honest, this is my favorite re-recording I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are just amazing. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!” Swift wrote on Instagram on August 10, when she also revealed the album cover. The original 13 songs – or 16 in the deluxe version – were added to the songs “Slut!”, “Say Don’t Go”, “Now That We Don’t Talk”, “Suburban Legends” and “Is It Over”. Now?” added. Another track “Sweeter Than Fiction” is available exclusively at the US supermarket Target. The album is also available on cassette, light blue vinyl and several colored CDs.
Background of the new releases
In 2019, Taylor Swift first confirmed that she would be re-recording her songbook to regain the copyrights to her music after Scooter Braun Big Machine Records acquired her catalog of master recordings. The bracket (TAYLOR’S VERSION) indicates the albums that belong to the musician herself. Only her debut album TAYLOR SWIFT (2006) and her 2017 record REPUTATION have not yet been re-released.
Taylor Swift leads finalists at 2023 Billboard Music Awards
At this year’s Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), taking place on November 19, Taylor Swift is a finalist in 20 categories – including Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Country Artist and Top Streaming Songs Artist. The singer, who is currently the female artist with the most BBMAs of all time with a total of 29 wins, could even overtake Drake, who takes the lead with a total of 34 BBMAs. Swift could also break Drake’s record for most Billboard Music Awards won in one night. The Canadian rapper received 13 awards at the show in 2017.
