Quevedo becomes the most listened to Spanish artist on the largest audio platform
After three consecutive years of reign, Taylor Swift has managed to dethrone Bad Bunny as the most listened to artist in the world on Spotify, the largest streaming audio platform, but not in Spain, where the Puerto Rican is still clinging to number 1.
The silver medal is not his here either, but rather Quevedo’s, who thus becomes not only the most listened to Spanish artist in his own country, but also in the rest of the world, as reported this Wednesday by the Swedish company.
It is not surprising, considering that three of their songs are among the most successful, especially ‘Playa del Inglés’, which was the most played in 2023, as well as ‘Columbia’, which appears in third place, behind ‘Yandel 150’, by Yandel and Feid. In eighth position is another cut of his authorship, ‘Punto G’.
“I am very grateful to the people who listen to me and like my music, who are the ones who make it up there.”. It has been a very complete year, with my first album and many collaborations that have made me have a lot of fun making music,” Quevedo said in statements collected by Spotify.
The list of most successful songs in Spain They complete it: in fourth place, ‘El Merengue’, by Marshmello with Manuel Turizo; ‘La Bachata’, by Manuel Turizo, in fifth; ‘Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53’, Bizarrap’s collaboration with Shakira is sixth; ‘Lala’, by Myke Towers, seventh; ‘Kiss’, by Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro, eighth; and ‘Nochentera’, by Vicco, tenth.
A symbol of the uniqueness of this country in terms of its listeners is that Taylor Swift is not even among the ten artists with the most reproductions, a list dominated by figures of Latin urban music. In this order, they are: Feid, Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro, Anuel AA, Mora, Eladio Carrión, Karol G and Bizarrap.
If the reproduction data of the most successful female artists in the country are separated, Swift appears in fifth position, behind the aforementioned Karol G (first), Shakira (second), Rosalía (third) and Aitana (fourth).
World data
These Spotify Spain lists are very different in their results from those of global hits, where Swift does reign with a total of 26,000 million listens ahead of the Puerto Rican Bad Bunny.
It should be noted that the author of ‘Midnights’ has also been chosen in 2023 as the ‘Artist of the Year’ by another important audio platform such as Apple Music, after having managed to get 65 of her songs to reach the global ‘Top 100’, more than any other figure in music.
As far as Spotify is concerned, the places of honor are completed: the Canadian The Weeknd, in third place; his compatriot Drake in the fourth and, what is even more curious, the Mexican Featherweight rises to the fifth as one of the main bastions of the rise of regional Mexican music.
It is not the only triumph for this genre, since the song ‘She Baila Sola’ that this artist performs together with his compatriots from Eslabón Armado is the fifth most listened to song of the year worldwide.
The classification, which opens with ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus (with 1.6 billion views since its release in January of this year), is completed by ‘Kill Bill’ by the also American Sza, ‘As it Was’ by the British Harry Styles (which sneaks into this classification for the second year, after being the most listened to of 2022) and ‘Seven’, by South Korean and former member of BTS Jung Kook, fourth.
