The Chinese authorities have imposed a fine of more than 1.1 billion euros on taxi app Didi. Didi has been under investigation for a year for illegally collecting personal data.
By: our tech editorsThe fine marks the end of the investigation, which was launched in July 2021 by the Chinese regulator CAC.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the fine of more than 1.1 billion euros amounts to about 4 percent of the total turnover that Didi made last year.
The Chinese government has already banned Didi from allowing new users on the platform and app stores had to remove the app. Those rules are now being reversed.
The company has not yet commented on the fine.
